We've all heard the song. Be good cuz Santa Clause is coming to town. You may play the song every Christmas, but have you considered adopting it as your own worldview?
That's what the American Humanist Association is asking you to consider. They are getting vocal this holiday. Check out this picture.
You may have recalled an earlier post I made regarding a similar campaign on buses in London .
If you don't know what humanist's believe, you should check out this website, Why Believe in God? .
So how does the Christian respond to an ad campaign such as this? Do you blow it off and ignore it?
I would encourage you to listen to someone that advocates such a view. Listen to their argument. Hear their worldview. Try to understand where they are coming from. Then, you may respectfully offer your view of humanity.
Humanists and Christians have drastically different views on the nature of humankind. Are we inherently good? Or is there some evil inside of us that prevents us from being good for the sake of doing so?
Humanists and Christians both want to work towards the good of the human race. But both have 2 radically different approaches regarding where the root cause of current evils exist. One distrusts religion. The other distrusts the human heart. One advocates focusing on the worth of all humans. The other advocates the need of a Savior to be able to see the worth of all humans.
So next time you see this advertisement or get into a conversation with someone about the "Christ" that has been taken out of Christmas, see it as an opportunity to exchange understandings of two different worldviews.
What would you think about the Christmas holiday if you had no belief in the birth of a Savior? Where, then, would you find hope?
